Project Five: Final

Here are my final images. When making these self portraits, I was thinking about creating an image that takes me away from the 'now,' and into the Chicano homeland of AztlánAztlán is the homeland of the Aztecs, and to some Chicanx people, Aztlán refers to the Mexican territories annexed from the US government in the Mexican-American war. Thus, Aztlán became a symbol and consciousness for this lost land. I used the styling aesthetics of rasquachismo to investigate what a utopia, away from now, and away from colonized land, into Aztlán might feel like for me. I used Mexican and Chicanx iconography and visual culture to communicate this affinity towards my cultural background, and dream-world beyond the current-day America.
